Greetings friends and colleagues, welcome to The Thoughtful Teacher Podcast. I am Scott Lee and I will be sharing stories and ideas that are empowering experiences for educators and anyone interested in education.

I started teaching in 1990 and even though it was hard, I still loved making a difference in working with kids. Since that time, I have been a regular education teacher, a special education teacher, principal, school director and education design consultant. During this time, I have met and continue to meet thoughtful and interesting people with powerful stories and ideas. Now I am sharing these experiences with you.

Episodes will include real stories from educators who have implemented innovative or creative solutions within their space. Other guests will share ideas about how education should be practiced in this ever-changing world. We will provide our member-listeners with content to improve professional practice, critically consider pedagogy and decrease the isolation associated with teaching.

Most of our guests are innovators in classrooms and schools; some are practitioners, some are designers, and others are researchers. Some will inspire, some will challenge, and others will provide practical roadmaps to improve practice, instruction and outcomes for student. From time to time we also may share commentary and consider policy issues that affect education and educators.

Let me share with you a little about our upcoming episodes. Our first two episodes will feature Jennifer Knowles who coaches teachers in using mindfulness effectively in their classrooms and Richard Tate who has trained teachers and mental health professionals in de-escalation techniques and avoiding power struggles. In the next episode, we will talk with Joshua Sneideman co-author of the book Everyday Superheroes: Women in STEM Careers. In future episodes, we will meet several teachers who will discuss how they implemented change initiatives within their schools, including restorative practices and literacy projects.

I do not consider myself “The Thoughtful Teacher”, instead I have conversations with people who can be your thought partners. My task is to question, consider multiple perspectives, and find the stories that will encourage your reflection and action as you grow professionally.

Please join me on this exciting journey!
